It's weird how when I was in there, time seemed to pass just uber slowly, yet on the first day, it already seemed like we had been in there for days.
But now, when I'm back home, I wish I was still there enjoying the fun times with all the other squadmates.
(I mean, come on, who wishes to come back home and face stupid and irritating brothers? Um, who still detest you because of what you did before you went for camp, 3 days ago.)
Anyhow, camp was fun. But tiring.
The first day seemed to pass really slowly, especially when we got scolded quite a bit at the beginning of the day when we had to prepare the bunks and stuff, and everyone got super sian.
At least it got better soon.
And we had to do field cooking for lunch. Our group used lots of firestarters in attempts to make a fire to boil the water. In the end, we tried using the hot water from the water cooler. Then we cooked some instant noodles and ate from the tin itself. :D
I guess the highlight/most memorable part of that day were the last few team-building games, whereby we used water balloons to play Captain's Ball. Mwahahaha. And had lots of fun. And displayed sheer violence in a simple game like Caterpillar. (or what was it called again?)
We got up and did PT the next morning. We had to do the commando crawl, and I swear it's not something I like. Every single time I do it, I end up getting abrasions and stuff on my elbows. The previous time it was the left elbow, and this time, both elbows. Happy new year!
The instructors kept prompting us to cheer, but I was seriously beat when we were past half the distance. Once I tried to cheer along, but realised I couldn't even find my voice.
God, I'm so weak. ):
Anyway. I guess their viewpoint of cheering is that, when everyone cheers together, our morale is boosted, and so we can endure through the entire thing as one squad.
But if we were all so tired and about to collapse any moment, I don't know how we could still cheer as loudly. And sometimes cheering people on gives more pressure instead.
Oh well.
Some time later on, we had squad-bonding games and stuff. There was one whereby we had to be split into 3 groups and complete stations.
We were totally stuck at the first station. All of us had to be blindfolded and had to walk backwards with a rope as a guide, and not step on the mines.
We didn't manage to finish that station, and skipped on to the next after plenty of tries.
The next station was Cpl HS's station. We had to cross the lasers without touching them, and freezing when Cpl HS (some security guy I think) woke up.
Cpl HS was supposedly supposed to be sleeping. But about every 5 to 10 seconds he was turning back. -_-
We got past that and went on to other stations.
We had to complete all these stations to get puzzle pieces, and when pieced together with the puzzle pieces of the other groups, were supposed to form an image.
There were other activities like telematch, and other squad-bonding games, which included one whereby we had to make ladder-like structures so that we could get up on some platform.
So our ladders weren't really successful, but all of us managed to get up onto the platform all the same. :D
We had field cooking again, this time making use of charcoal. And we had to cook up something for Sir Weilong, and the winning group would get a tub of ice-cream or something.
We didn't manage to eat a lot ourselves, though.
Anyway, of course the highlight of the second day was
CAMPFIRE. And the skit and stuff we had been preparing for. Okay, it didn't turn out too good. But heck. Everyone had fun
sabo-ing Mdm Yiwei doing dances and songs and stuff.
Right. Did I mention Mdm Serene is nice and um, nice? (Tsk, instructors say she's fierce) But maybe it's too early to judge. Aw, I don't know.
Anyway, after a fun fun night, we went for body maintenance, and we got to sleep in the hall! YAYNESS. No more tents and areas flooded with
water mud!
Okay, at about 12, some of us went to sing YY a happy birthday song. Eh so nice right?
I bet YY won't forget this 13th birthday of hers. And not just because us nice
and kind and caring and loving squadmates of hers asked for time extension of Lights Out just to sing her a birthday song. It was also because this
special birthday of hers had a
special event. :D
I don't know when I fell asleep, nor when I woke up. But at about 3am, we were forced to rush and wake up, change into shoes and go down. Oh, and it wasn't a fire drill.
We got woken up at 3am to be told ghost stories, then go around dark places to find clues to get freaked out again. Isn't that just fun?
Nightwalk sounded scary and a dumb reason to be woken up at 3am. But it
was really fun anyway. Not that it was back then, but if you just look back on it, it is. :D
Oh. I was trying to comfort myself with what I said the other time at the TNS carnival.
"都是人来的啦!"
It worked. I'm serious. It actually helped like, at least a bit.
Yes I'm a big coward and I didn't dare to go for the stupid nightwalk.
And I didn't bring my jacket and I was freezing.

At the first station, the dolls looked scary. Really. Luckily I didn't even know they dropped from the tree, 'cause they didn't drop on me - unlike unlucky people like YY, who gets dolls dropped directly onto their heads from people who release them from up on the trees.
Jeez.
Jade and I were arguing about who would go into the "tunnel" first, at the second station. I told you I'm a big coward, and neither of us wanted to go in first, so we stood there for some time arguing.
Okay, but I went in first anyway because the Cpls were getting pretty much frustrated with us.
I shouldn't have gone in first because I thought the clue was just a stupid picture which didn't mean anything. So I ignored it and insisted there was no clue when in actual fact, I knew it was there.
Right, I'm so stupid.
Then there was a broom and a mop sticking out from the side when we were walking later on. I thought some people were probably going to jump out from the side pillars and scare us, but there were none.
And the brooms and mops weren't that scary, luckily.
We proceeded on to the next station - the toilet, which was quite scary, considering when we stepped in there were lights, and the next moment the lights went off and the door banged hard behind us.
"Happy New Year!", was what I just managed to say. -_-
Then I didn't dare to pull open the shower curtain thingies. For the first, I opened it a bit, then decided to pull it quickly. I did the same for the second, and then, "RAAAARRR!"
Out came Staff Tienleng.
Eh, considering the ambience there, it was shocking. As in, obviously something or someone would be there - just that we didn't know where. So I got shocked when he came out.
I'm not like HG, who goes around scaring the people who try to scare him. -_-
I didn't really understand the next clue, but we figured it was the dummies thingy. HG kindly left the clues in the most obvious places. THANK YOU.
We found the clue, which was 'The stage of horror.'
The hall was kinda freaky because it was kinda spacious and there was weird music. -_-
And no one around. Oh, and the door slammed behind us, as usual.
Jade and I strolled to the radio, then after getting the clue, ran out to the door. It was kinda scary in the hall, so I was more than glad to get out of there asap.
While we were sitting down outside waiting for the next station, I felt something on the back of my neck. Great, it wasn't anything that was touching my shoulder. Someone was blowing onto my neck. And um, when we turned, it was the one who tried to murder us with a teletubby later on too.
We were told to beware and watch out.

The next one was OMGWTF.
Eh, I was trying to be nice and innocent and asked if we could go past and she dao-ed me. ):
And when I walked past, she grabbed my arm and went, "WAIT."
There's echo. So yes, it was kinda scary. But anyway we went on and there were people who tried to crawl to us and grab our ankles. I think grabbing our ankles are supposed to be something to make us real scared. And it was, considering how fast the Sir was crawling towards us.
Suck Milk suggested (later on) that we could kick them in the face, actually.
We found the A4-sized paper with a picture and the name, which was (I think) Cpl Tay Yeow Leong or something. Then we had to find his name on the top of the steps.
Oh, just when I was about to go onto the steps?
Yeah, Mdm Yiwei grabbed my limb, too, and screamed. And told us something like, he was coming.
Then when we were done and were going out, I got grabbed
AGAIN, this time by Cpl Jocelyn. And I got asked what we were doing here, when she had been standing there all the time and even hitting the fire hosereel thingy to scare us.
It felt kinda rude to be answering them back, but it helped a lot. My arm was let go of, and we proceeded on to the comfort zone.
Jeez, I should try to be more aware of people grabbing my limbs.

We had another hour or so of sleep before waking up again for flag raising.
Then we unpitched our tents and stuff and got ready to go home.

The bus took us to Paya Lebar MRT. And throughout the bus ride, we were constantly being reminded to cheer and sing.
Suddenly it was so silent I wondered how come the Cpls stopped asking us to cheer and sing (when we had not been cheering properly because majority of us refused to open our golden mouths to do so). We found out why when Zhiwei began laughing like a madwoman.

I guess maybe you can't tell from the picture. But whatever.

Well, before the camp, I've never really wholly believed the "Std1 camp is FUN!" thing.
After the camp, I guess it wasn't entirely right that it was just fun. At different points of time it was different things. Fun, memorable, tiring, frustrating..
But overall, it was great. :D
